Doggy Portrait Commission

AND IT IS DONE!!!! HOLLAAAA!

Almost there! Just few touch-ups here and there and badda-bing badda-boom.

Progress 6, about 19 hours in. Just about finished with the background and about to move into the doggies. Huzzah!

Progress 5, 16 hours in.

Progress 4, 14.5 hours in.

Progress 3, putting in the actual colors, about 11 hours in.

Progress Two, tightening the underpainting, 7 hours in.

Progress One, the rough underpainting, 3 hours in.

Aights yos, so I've got a commission to paint some doggies which I'm quite excited about. I did a color sketch today of the composition and here it be:

Doggy Mural Sketches

Here are a few sketches I've done so far of the doggies. They are Pearl, Candy, and Harley, respectively. My first idea for the mural is DOGSSS INNNN SPACE Space space (imagine that was all echo-y). Yeah, they'll just be floating around in little space ships amidst a nebula cloud. Sounds pretty sweet to me.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalyse Series

I apologize for all this Apocalypse stuff lately, but I'm just kinda into it right now; I'm actually not that dark of a person! So yes, I'm doing four pieces, each one representing one of the Horsemen. We shall see how it goes...

Doggy Mural

Alright, alright so I've got a new project to work on; a mural on one of the walls at my job, Walter's Pet Styles: expert grooming and daycare located at 201-C E. 33rd St. between 2nd and 3rd aves. It'll be really fun to do and I'm going to do sketches of a few ideas and post them soon. Woof.

Doomsday Abstraction (Progress 1 and 2)

The closest thing that I have to an obsession is the year 2012. You know, the year the Mayan calendar ends; the year earth flips from one side of the Milky Way to the other potentially switching the earth's polar orientation; the year a giant solar flare from the sun could strike earth. Who knows, maybe there's more circumstances I don't even know about. Well, I don't know what form the earth's destruction will come in (hopefully none at all) so I'm just creating this bizarre, freaky mass to represent the ambiguity of this event. This is still in progress but I wanted to post it. Maybe if I get really obsessed I'll do like a hundred of these.

A New Direction Continued

So here's the painting I'm all excited about, specifically about that I'm moving towards abstraction a bit which lets me use my imagination more and frees me from the restrictions of representational work. I think the organic, gut-like forms in the dress and to the right of the model lend themselves to a more psychological quality, which I'm so down with.

A New Direction

So yes, I think I may be on to something. It's funny how for so long an artist draws all these different things in his/her sketchbook and does all these different paintings and what-not, all the while struggling to bring these things together. It seems like it should be easy to just mesh them together and create some nice work, but for some reason it's not. I suppose this what goes on throughout the whole life of an artist, and periodically he/she reaches points of aesthetic clarity. Well, I think I've reached one of those points. I'm working on this little painting right now that was not meant to be anything special but something just clicked halfway through. It's almost finished and when it is I'll post it and the influences that lead to it's creation. I'm quite excited for it because I think it is going to represent the beginnings of a new direction in my work. Banana!
